Here are some comics I made, heavily inspired by The Far Side.

In true spirit of Far Side.

I would suggest “days” instead of “months” on the first one. Not as realistic, but more dramatic. Still hysterical though.

Yeah I was thinking of changing it to “weeks” actually, which is a good medium. The first caption I had for it said: “The Great Era of Hunter-Scatterers is often overlooked due to its brevity.” I changed it because a lot of people don’t know what “brevity” means, and also I wanted to say the ending was tragic. But actually people can figure out, if they know what “brevity” means, that the ending was most likely tragic, so I think I ought to change it back.

So did you ever give Jack+Jill to Coco? (I always thought you should do a fairy tale series)

Yeah I mounted it to foam posterboard and gave it to her, though I don’t know if she actually glued it yet. A fairy tale series would be pretty good if I could do clever symbolism in every one to foreshadow what was going to happen. Then at least if the technical quality of the painting isn’t that great there’s something interesting to back it up.

This is hilarious. You need to make more! My stuff is also influenced by The Far Side.

Great - both of them!

Don’t change the word “brevity”. It is perfect in that context. If someone doesn’t know what the word means, let them look it up instead of insulting the intelligence of the rest of your readers.

You shouldn’t change your vocabulary usage at all. The word “brevity” may not be a word the general public uses, but dumbing down a caption is something Larson never did - which is one reason his comic strip was so popular. Fool around with your captions, but never dumb it down.

Great job aping Larson! If I didn’t know better, I’d have sworn you totally stole that first one.

Thanks ya’ll for your feedback; I didn’t know so many people would like them. I’ll try to think up some more to see if it wasn’t just a passing comet of humor.

I think “brevity” increases the levity, and screw anyone who can’t be bothered to look up a word they don’t know.
Very nice comics. A great tribute to Larson. I do hope you keep it up.
